West Sound

West Sound Radio was launched on October 16th 1981 and broadcasts to Ayrshire, Arran and Cumbrae. Based in Ayr with its AM transmitter in Symington, South Ayrshire and its DAB transmitter in Darvel, East Ayrshire, the station forms part of the Bauer City 2 network in Scotland and Northern England.

On 21st May 1990 a new “sister” station was opened to serve Dumfries & Galloway and was known as South West Sound.

In September 2019, all local programming from Dumfries ended, with the breakfast and drive time shows now coming from Glasgow.
